He doesn’t always give us the full picture

I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.
— Isaiah 45:3 NIV

I was out on a little power walk the other morning getting some fresh air, a beautiful scenery, and some time alone with God all at the same time.

I love it when my mornings allow for some self-care and reflection.

While deep in thought, some glistening snow caught my eye. The sun was shinning just right on the landscape around me making the ground appear to have tiny diamonds as far as I could see. The weekend before we had gotten loads of fresh snow which hadn’t settled into the muddy ground beneath it yet.

As I was enjoying this view, I felt the Lord speak this to my heart:

Jennifer—I have so many hidden treasures for you to discover on this property.

Years ago I had such big aspirations to travel the world and speak at women’s events, all the while, writing book-after-book that would surely hit the New York’s best seller list.

I was certain that going to seminary would further seal the deal for my future in ministry and that my calling was going to take me to places all around the world. I told you I had big aspirations. :)

In my 20’s and 30’s I liked being busy and filling up my time with lot’s of people and discovering places to go. If I had a free night or weekend, I’d be sure to find something to do. If there wasn’t something to do, I’d plan something.

My 40’s have been a refining decade where I’ve found myself drawn to a much quieter life. One where I’m home and present for my family. One where simplicity is a regular part of our rhythm and where I can have meaningful conversations that allow for a depth and real connection.

Oh—yes there is still very much a desire to share Jesus with as many people as possible. In this season we’re dreaming new dreams about how to use the land and home the Lord has blessed us with to minister to others.

In fact, that’s exactly what I was chatting with God about when the He drew me to the beauty beneath my feet.

When we give God full control of our lives, He is sure to take us on a journey. One with many twits and turns and one where we may be asked to surrender thoughts and ideas of the past in order to embrace the new hidden treasures yet to be discovered.

Are your dreams changing too?

PS — I think I may need a highland cow in my future. What do you think — should I get one?
