Every blended family has a different backstory—Here is ours.
The is Us
est. 2018We’re a big blended family and the story that brought us to this point is oh so complicated. When I find myself having an extra few minutes, I do my best to write down a few words because I have found it to be good for my heart.
I refer to my Mr. as my favorite farm guy because I think it’s cute and I like having an endearing name for him while I write. He brought two sweet girls into the blend, I brought five handsome guys, and since marrying, we’ve gained three daughter-in-luvs.
Our three oldest are now married and living in their own homes, while our four younger ones still come and go, which is typical for blended families, although nothing really feels normal about it.
We landed in Fruitport when we married almost eight years ago. It’s not a school district any of our kids belong to, but we’ve managed to make it work.
We first lived in a hobby farm tucked far into the woods. It was the perfect landing for our family because we’re kind of loud and we love to live carefree.
While there, we acquired our first dog, a couple of barn cats, some baby doll sheep, and some nigerian goats.
During Covid we really began to embrace the homesteading lifestyle and started dreaming of bigger things we could implement as a family, including opening a roadside farmstand.
That’s probably what led up to us deciding to go all in on buying a modern farmhouse that will allow for our continued growth as a fam. We know grandbabies aren’t too far off.
My hubby likes to spend his sabbaths out on the farm cutting wood or tending our pastures. I like to spend mine snuggled up with a good book, a blanket, and a warm cup of coffee in the winter, or out on the front porch with some sweet tea during the summer months.
Our worlds collided back in 2017 when he showed up to volunteer at the homeless shelter where I worked. Truth be told—it was the third date that did me in.
We have dreams—big dreams and I like sharing them with the world because it seems to help put things in motion.
We love Jesus—like a lot.
And we love to tell people about the beauty of second, third and +++ chances because that’s part of our story and we think the world needs more good stories to be shared.
