The Way of Abundance

Walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
— Ephesians 5:2 NIV

I’ve read Ann Voskamp’s book titled The Way of Abundance” a few times now and every time I do, I’m always reminded how peaceful it is to live with a heart of gratitude.

I love the saying; what you focus on—grows.

As we continue our path forward during our busiest time of the year and head right into the holiday months, my hope is that I’ll remember to look around and see His goodness scattered all around us.

Years ago, I labeled an old mason jar "Our Gratitude Jar" and set it where everyone would see it. Nearby I left scrap paper. One by one we dropped in notes of our blessings. It's been a favorite family tradition for years. Each year between Thanksgiving and Christmas we empty the jar and remember our favorite moments.

It’s so easy to forget. I’ve saved the different years blessings for keepsake.

When you lose sight of how good God has been, you’re liable to start looking at any negative thing going on around you.

The other day I listened to a message by Joyce Meyer where she shared a visual of what it’s like to live with burdens, offenses, and hurts that weigh us down. She said it’s like carrying around a sack of potatoes with us wherever we go. And the longer we carry them, the more likely they are to start rotting. Kind of a gross visual I know, but I think that was the whole point.

The truth is you can’t live with a grateful heart and an offended heart at the same time. One or the other will eventually become the dominate force behind your thoughts and actions.

I don’t want a divided heart. I want to walk freely down the path that leads to more abundance year-after-year.

You too?

Prayer for Abundance

Thank you, Lord, for the reminder this week to count my blessings. Thank you for the opportunity to lay things at Your feet. Thank you for fresh renewal that is always available for us. Help me to live with arms wide open to all that You have.
