Numbering my days

I recently saw a post about a new young moms’ groups starting up and it made me smile and think about my days as a young mom. I had so many good visits with friends over the years while our kids played nearby. In fact, they’ve been some of my favorite days in life so far. They taught me so much about friendship and motherhood.

So teach us to number our days,
That we may cultivate and bring to You a heart of wisdom.
— Psalm 90:12

When I think of life as a series of numbered days, it helps me better understand the different times and seasons God gives us and the purpose woven through each one.

17,815 days.

That’s the number of days I’ve been given so far— each one a small, little chapter in the story of my life.

That’s a lot of days to learn about life.

When I was in my early 20’s I was part of a multigenerational women’s Bible study. I’ll never forget that season because it’s when I began to embrace womanhood. These dear ladies taught me how to love being home, how to enjoy time in my kitchen, and how to pray out loud. They also taught me about the importance of spending intentional time with God and how to gently cultivate and open my heart to Him.

They taught me so much.

As I reflect on my coming days, I sense that they are to be more about discipleship than friendship, and the thought of that genuinely makes my heart smile.

Are you numbering your days? Is your season shifting too?
