From my heart to yours

Every once in a while, God gives me words to write and when He does—they end up here.

Somthing is Cooking

It’s never easy to surrender something you love deeply and have cared for almost a decade.

On Mother’s Day this year we received some of the sweetest news—we discovered that we are going to be grandparents! I knew this day would come, and now that it’s here I’m eagerly anticipating the moment I finally get to hold our sweet grandbaby.

I remember clearly when my mom became a grandmother and how much she cherished stepping into that role. Although it feels like it happened only yesterday, it was actually thirty years ago now.

We’ve entered into a fresh new season as a family in so many meaningful ways; we moved into a new home, welcomed the responsibility (and freedom) of two teenage drivers this year, gained a few barn kitties who have brought additional liveliness to the farm, and recently discovered we’ll be adding a precious little baby to our growing mix.

We feel so blessed

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”
— Isaiah 43:18-19

Over a year ago, the Lord began to show us that my season of building the 1M Project was coming to an end, and that I was supposed to surrender this ministry to Him so I could enter a “long season of rest.” Those were literally the words a friend spoke to me while we were in prayer one Sunday at church.

Step-by-step He’s led the way as I’ve moved out of a leadership position and into more of a supportive role to the board.

It’s never easy to surrender something you love deeply and have cared for almost a decade.

Life didn’t slow down for me once I stepped down from the position; in many ways, it actually sped up. I began a new job with a manufacturing company close to our home, while also juggling all the other changes I’ve already mentioned.

I’ve found myself asking God again and again how long this long season of rest will last and what He’s trying to grow in me along the way.

To my suprise He’s informed me that I haven’t really been resting and that He’s patiently waiting to show me what’s next once I do.

I remember how excited I began to feel as I neared my fortieth birthday, having learned to release the things that would have held me back from all that God had in store for me. I sense that same stirring again now, a familiar mix of anticipation and quiet trust as I step into what’s next.

I have about eleven months to pray into the new dreams God has for me in my fifties, and I want to be truly ready for whatever He begins to reveal. Even this morning I felt God gently placing something new in my heart, and I trust that in time He will call me to step out and run forward with it.

How about you? Are you doing what you’ve always done while trying to move forward with something new? Can I challenge you to take some time to really ask God if there’s anything He might be asking you to let go of and see what He says.
